J K Cancer Institute is a Uttar Pradesh state run centre of excellence in the field of cancer located in Kanpur.
The foundation stone of JK cancer Institute was laid by first President of India Dr Rajendra Prasad on 24th May 1956.
Under the Colombo plan Radium and cobalt (needles and tubes) and Radiotherapy Machine cobalt 60 C-II was first gifted by Canada government which was inaugurated by health minister UP state government Shri Mahavir Prasad and centre was officially inaugurated by first Prime Minister India Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru on 12th may 1963.
The Institute has comprehensive facilities for teaching, research and patient-care. JKCI conducts teaching programs in medical and para-medical courses at postgraduate levels. Teaching and research are conducted in field of oncology (radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgery).
Presently it is a 106 bedded hospital dedicated to cancer patients with yearly new patient inflow of 7041, cancer registrations (as of 2020-21) and Inpatient admissions of nearly 7000 patients yearly. The centre has 2 cobalt machines (Theratron 780 E and Bhabhatron-II) one Linear Accelarator one HDR brachytherapy, CT simulator and MRI facilities.
J K Cancer Institute covers population of Uttar Pradesh as well nearby states and also providing free treatment to poor and disabled patients as per UP government policy.
