J K Cancer Institute is a Uttar Pradesh state run centre of excellence in the field of cancer located in Kanpur. The foundation stone of JK cancer Institute was laid by first President of India Dr Rajendra Prasad on 24th May 1956 and centre was officially inaugurated by first Prime Minister India Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru on 12th may 1963. J K Cancer Institute is a part of GSVM Medical College Kanpur and affiliated to Chatrapti Sahu ji Maharaj Medical University for Academic Purposes. The Institute has comprehensive facilities for teaching, research and patient-care. JKCI conducts teaching programs in medical and para-medical courses at postgraduate levels. Teaching and research are conducted in field of oncology (radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgery). Presently it is a 106 bedded hospital dedicated to cancer patients with yearly new patient inflow of 7041, cancer registrations (as of 2020-21) and Inpatient admissions of nearly 7000 patients yearly. The centre has 2 cobalt machines (Theratron 780 E and Bhabhatron-II) one Linear Accelarator one HDR brachytherapy, CT simulator and MRI facilities.
