J K Cancer Institute(JKCI) is an Uttar Pradesh state run centre of excellence in the field of
cancer, located in Kanpur. The foundation stone of JK cancer Institute was laid by first
President of India Dr Rajendra Prasad on 24th May 1956 and centre was officially
inaugurated by first Prime Minister of India Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru on 12th may 1963. J K
Cancer Institute is a part of GSVM Medical College Kanpur and affiliated to Atal Bihari
Vajpayee Medical University for academic purposes. The Institute has comprehensive
facilities for teaching, research and patient-care. JKCI conducts teaching programs in
medical and para-medical courses at postgraduate levels. Teaching and research are
conducted in field of oncology (radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgery). Presently it is a
106 bedded hospital including 8 bedded emergency dedicated to cancer patients with yearly
new patient inflow of 10950, cancer registrations (as of 2024-25) and Inpatient admissions
of nearly 9000 patients yearly. The centre has 2 cobalt machines (Theratron 780 E and
Bhabhatron-II) and one HDR brachytherapy machine. It is also equipped with surgical
oncology, anesthesia, pain and palliative care, pathology, radiology and Msc Nursing
oncology facilities. It also has ultrasonography, digital x-ray, CT simulator and MRI facilities.
